Research interests

We have very broad interests in evolutionary biology, behavioural ecology, and biodiversity conservation. Most research is focused on the ecological and evolutionary determinants of phenotypic variation in behavioural, morphological and physiological traits. The main topics include the evolution of sexual signaling and sperm competition, parent-offspring communication and kin selection and the evolution of life-history strategies, including maternal effects and migration. We have also keen interest in the ecological determinants and the consequences of oxidative stress, as well as in the genetic determinants of complex traits. Part of our research deals with the effects of anthropogenic phenomena such as climate change, pollution and radioactive contamination and agriculture on demography, phenology and conservation. Main model organisms are birds, mostly in the field, but our interests also cover other taxa. We have established a large network of collaborations with researchers worldwide.
